Easy image transferJan 31, 2010
By William Garnett Digital photography is wonderful but media storage, NOT! You've just snapped 216 shots in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef. Back on the boat, your gratification is almost instantaneous. WOW, one amazing image after another! You only have one more day of shooting, but you just know it will be even better than the first. Then you realize, almost in a panic, that you have to transfer those beauties to your laptop to free your card for the last day. Out comes the USB cord (or card reader). What a nuisance -- so 20th Century.
Too bad SanDisk no longer markets either the nifty 2 or 4GB Ultra II SD Plus Card with its built-in USB plug. Yeah, it was delicate, not for fumble thumbs. But it was sooo handy. You just popped the card out of your camera, folded out the built-in USB plug, and inserted it into a USB port. The card's tiny light blinked to let you know it was downloading those amazing images onto your hard drive. In less than five minutes, you were ready to fill the card again. Now that was convenience!
I've had two of these cards for several years and neither has failed despite a few attempts to open them the wrong way in haste. I just purchased two more which I hope to use until that compact 32MB full-frame DSLR appears before the next recession.

These SD/USB combo cards are amazing. The dual-functionality cannot be beat. It's either an SD card (2GB models are the universal non-SDHC) or a USB drive. Fits in your wallet, no problem. Works in my Treo as an SD card or in any USB reader, too.
