2Not bad for a sub $15 productJul 15, 2009

I got this from the My Coke Rewards (MCR) program, so it was free. I see Amazon has it for less than $15, which is about the most I would recommend anyone pay. The speakers sound OK, not a whole lot of bass, but give the size of the speakers, its not surprising. The speakers are small and would not take up much room if portability is important. There is no volume control on the speakers, volume control is handled by your mp3 player. It takes 4 AAA batteries to power, although it comes with a cable to power it through a computer's USB port or you can buy a transformer to run it from household power. Overall, they seem to be fairly well built. I have been using it while working out in my shed and the speakers can get fairly loud, but like I said, they are lacking in bass.

The MCR site says it is for iPods, and while it may be tailored to provide a nice "dock" for iPods, the connection to the speaker is through the headphone jack. It is not a true "dock" where you can charge up your iPod. This has the advantage that non-iPods can "dock" themselves using the built in dock if they have a bottom earphone jack and are similar enough in size and shape to an iPod, like my Sansa Fuze is a copy of the previous gen. Nano and fits in the "dock" quite nicely so I can use the built in headphone jack on the "dock" of the speakers. The speakers come with a cable to connect to the headphone jack on any mp3 player that can't fit in the "dock".

Overall, these are an OK set of speakers. If you are looking to not spend more than $15 for speakers then I would recommend this set, however, if you are willing to spend more, I would recommend getting something larger that has better bass. If I had to do over again, I would not have used up my MCR points on these speakers seeing how much they are worth. I could have DL'd three albums for the MCR points this set cost me.

4Probably the best mp3 speakerbox you'll find for under $20, good and loud for the price.Nov 05, 2009

I have to agree with the first reviewer on some things, especially where he says he wished he wouldn't have spent the coke rewards on it considering the price. If you have an Ipod though and no speakers for it I'd reccommend it strongly for the price and purpose of hearing the music without headphones at a loud enough level to enjoy it. It's loud enough in my trailer that I can have it on in the living room and hear it in the office (second room back the hallway). The bass is absolutely not there, and I do wish it had some sort of bass capacity... but it really is lacking 100% in bass, and for hip-hop fans this might not cut it at the higher volumes, although you can easily enjoy the music loud enough for yourself and anybody else in the room to hear without maxing it out and noticing anything unusual about the sound. You only notice the lack of bass at about 7/8s capacity for the sound... at least in my opinion, to my ears. I've rigged up several speaker boxes for my mp3 players in the past, even bought two. This one for the price it is selling at is perfect. I believe I could have gotten more value out of my coke rewards if I tried but this was the only thing I really could think of that I needed.

For the record, if you're into high bass quality sound from mp3 players, I'd strongly reccommend the V-Moda Bass Freq headphones... they plug your ear like an ear plug blocking most external sounds (much better than noise reduction over-the-ear headphones) and delivering very high quality low end sounds to your ears. I got them from Pepsi's reward program and fell in love. I don't know if the skull candy ones are as good, the ratings on here don't seem as high as the V-Modas... but if you're trying to find something to play the music loud enough to hear over machines or something at work, I'd recommend that style headphone over buying something like this speaker box any day. So if you're using coke rewards to buy an mp3 player accessory, consider the headphones over this if you don't have a quality pair of in ear headphones that block out external sounds like ear plugs. If you're looking to share music with other people, get this speaker box. IF you're looking to enjoy the music alone at its clearest capacity (even over background noises) get the head phones.
