Best in their ClassDec 18, 2011
By B. Santora I've been an audiophile for 40 years and first bought these headphones 20 years ago.I recently bought two more pairs and was surprised to see that they hadn't changed. They can't be compared to closed-back digital reference headphones ($100 or over) but what I like about the audio technica is that they're not bass-heavy and somehow represent all of the necessary frequencies in a pleasing way. I've used these lightweight phones for everything from drum machines to walkmans and mp3 players. The difficulty in rating headphones is understanding the source material. Many tracks on youtube and in modern recording are heavily compressed and bass-heavy. Online music differs greatly depending on who recorded and posted it. If you like a lot of bass, as in over-emphasized, then these headphones will come up short, but if you're listening to a well-mastered classic recording that you are unable to eq (adjust bass, treble, etc.), such as with a portable cd player or mp3 player, then you want the headphones to reproduce that material without adding anything of their own. If the original recording engineer did a good job, you'll hear it with these phones. This set does that very well - from 60's gems like the Byrds Greatest Hits, to Moody Blues' Seventh Sojourn, to Bach and Vivaldi, as well as heavy metal like Megadeth and Opeth, these phones just deliver what's there without muddy midrange or stomping bass. I'm able to hear every instrument - and at this price, that's 5 stars.

By Music lover This headphone are good for light use, to skype or to watch a youtube video, but the sound quality is very poor. Nevertheless, the price is fair and nobody is lying to you....
