4Great Antenna For Big Rigs & RVsMar 30, 2007
By M. Johnson "LifeDude"
I bought this antenna for use on my Kenworth T600 truck. The smaller antenna that comes with the car accessories kept falling off the truck even if I used velcro and tape. The smaller antenna also does not have a long enough cable to reach some of the higher locations on a big rig truck.

The Terk XM Antenna works well because it comes with two different types of mounting options. (1) You can use the mirror mount to attach it to any round tubular type mirror arm. My Kenworth does not have the tubular mirror arms, but the application still works by using a longer nut/bolt combination available from your local hardware store. (2) Your second option is to use the pressure mount hardware to attach the antenna to any other edge on the truck or RV. It is perfect for mounting the antenna to the top back area of the air dam or to the side back fairings if you don't have an air dam.

My only small complaint and reason for 4 stars instead of 5...

...There doesn't seem to be enough cable (even with the longer one that comes with this model over the normal ones) if you plan to attach it to the back of your truck, such as up on the air dam. You almost need to mount it in this location to get it away from your CB antennas. I first tried mounting it on the mirror arms, but I found many drop-outs on any eastward heading routes since the XM antenna was not high enough on the truck. Supposedly the CB antennas can interfere with the XM antenna if they are mounted too close, which leaves the top of the truck (on the air dam) as the highest location away from the CB antennas. If you are willing to drill a hole in the sleeper or cab then there is plenty of cable to run it inside your truck, hide it behind interior walls, and have it run up and out of your dash area to the XM radio. But without drilling a hole, you have to run it down the back of the sleeper, under the cab and up through any rubber pass-through you can find. By that point you've wasted most or all of the cable length, which limits where you can position the radio.

All in all, great antenna with better overall reception than the run-of-mill XM antennas.

5XM antennaFeb 22, 2008

This antenna is easy to use. The mounting hardware is great for most applications. It switches easly from truck to truck, and the lead is removable which eliminates the common problem of breakage on some other brands.

1Item Misrepresented!Feb 07, 2010
By D. Ostrander
Since this was my first xm radio purchase, I'm a little green as to the correct antenna to buy. I ordered this because the picture showed a antenna, my fellow truck driver bought that was the right one, the antenna I recived does not look anything like this one, It's not the same! Also a customer review I read said it could be mounted two ways, mirror, or air dam. What I got was an antenna that ONLY mounts on the air dam (I needed the mirror mount type for now),and as I found out latter, was some old type technology, that requires two antenna (in) ports on your radio. My NEW skydock only axcepts one. Because I waited too long to exchange this, I am now stuck with a worthless piece of old technology. Have a Great day!..

3Only one problemNov 16, 2011
By k.aren
My husband was pleased that I ordered him a new antenna for his XM radio. The radio comes with a very small, magnetic backed disc-shaped antenna that is designed to stick somewhere on the vehicle's dashboard. This leaves reception very dependant on direction and the position of the satellite for constant, uninterrupted service. We looked into various designs available and picked the Audiovox XM4 Truck Mount. He wanted to mount it behind the cab but high enough to get 360 degrees of coverage. Ooops....the only drawback......it does not come with enough length of cable to connect from the back of the cab all the way up to the dash behind the radio. Looks like we are back to riggiing it up on the side mirror mount outside the truck but that isn't the ideal spot.

4This was my previous antennaJun 12, 2011

I bought this model at a truck stop (Pilot) about 5 years ago. it was mounted on the left side front air deflector on a Freightliner century class truck. Worked fine for the 3.5 years i had it on the company truck. only 3 problems noted. 1- in heavy hi-powered AM/FM terrenstrial radio area, noted that signal strength would drop and in some cases disappear. 2-.Also, the "universal" mirror mount was not big enough to fit on the mirror posts of the century class truck onless longer mounting screws were used. (Hence the mounting on the air dam) And finally, 3- The mounting hardware corroded so badly that when I switched trucks, I was unable to dismount the antenna from the air dam.
Overall, I was satisfied with the antenna's performance
