Great Paperweight For Desk at HomeDec 17, 2008
By Andrew L. Petty
"Senorpetty"
Although I have no way of knowing whether this product works or not, I can say that it has not worked with my computer yet. I can say that it is useful for keeping papers from blowing off of my desk. Belkin claims that this adapter is universal. It's universal because even though it doesn't come with the correct adapter tip for your computer right out of the box, all you have to do is go to Belkin's website, put in your serial number and the type of computer that you own and Belkin sends you the tip. Couldn't be easier. I tried this and failed miserably. Belkin directs you to its tip wizard to find the appropriate tip for your computer. Although I own a relatively popular brand of business laptop, my computer model was nowhere to be found. To fix this, Belkin requires that you email them your computer model number and then a week later they send you the tip number. I did this and about a week later I got the correct tip information delivered right to me. At this point, it had only been two and a half since I ordered the power adapter. Consequently, I am not pissed at this point.
The next step is to get your serial number and plug it into the Belkin website. This caused me some problems. Unlike every other product ever made in the history of time, the serial number for the adapter is taped to the inside of the instruction manual and is not located on the item itself. I thought this was weird, but not a problem so long as I eventually got the serial number. I was relieved after having found out where to look for the serial number. When I opened the instruction manual, however, I found there was no serial number. I called Belkin.
The support people that I talked to were very nice and helped as best they could. I was surprised at this considering my experience with other tech companies. The rep I talked to immediately whipped out a new serial number and laid it on me. I was surprised at how quickly he was able to produce a new serial number for me. According to the rep I was not the only caller to Belkin regarding a missing serial number. According to him, this is a common problem with this this particular device. I asked why the serial number was not on the adapter itself like everything else I have ever owned, but he could not give me an answer. He offered to get me a engineer, but I declined because I am busy and important. The rep told me that he had placed an order for my tip and that it should arrive in a couple weeks. At this point all of the legwork involved with getting a spare power adapter for my computer was leaving mildly miffed, but not overtly angry.
One month later (today), I had not received my tip. I was wondering where it was so I called Belkin. Again, I very quickly got a nice rep who seemed like she was doing everything she could to help me out. According to her there was no problem. The rep I had spoken with earlier had forgotten to complete my tip order. All she had to do was submit it and i would receive my tip in a couple weeks. She must have been talking to me during a profound moment of clarity on the fallibility of man because this did not make me even slightly more irritated. I was still just a little miffed.
I was getting ready to get off of the phone with the rep when she offered to check on the availability of the tip for me. Despite my aforementioned business and importantness, I let her check. When she came back on the line she told me that the tip was back-ordered and that they were due in stock in the middle of February (2.5 months from now and four months after I added this product to my cart). I got pissed.
Maybe this thing works great. I have no way to tell. I'll let you guys know in the middle of February. Maybe I will have calmed down by then.
3/17/09 Update: It is the middle of March and my tip is nowhere to be found. Looks like my warranty will be up by the time I get a chance to see if this thing works. Very clever, Belkin.
3/17/26 Update: I got two tips in the mail today and the adapter seems to work great. If it lasts more than a month, I might change my rating.

Works as advertisedJun 18, 2008
By V. Kayambu This is a good product..Got the adapter for my Acer Aspire 5315 model and it worked fine right out of the box..It comes with many adapters also. Cord length is sufficient and tip locks perfectly with the cord.I would recommend this product..
Good productJul 14, 2010
By Kjersti I have been using my new cord for around 3 weeks now and I'm still pretty happy about it. One of the tips fits my Toshiba perfectly and has not been giving me any trouble. Sure, it is a little bulky but concidering the car charger and usb add on, I think it is worth it. There is a good chance it might actually last longer then my last two cords.

The connection tip to my computer is too big and very fragile. I purchased The Belkin Power Adapter for my laptop about 5 months ago and 5 days ago after couple of weeks not knowing why my computer was dying found out that it was the Belkin power adapter. I called Belkin and I was told that the problem is the tip of the adapter and they would send me the tip which is not working. Yet I have not received it. A friend of mine who has a Belkin Power Adapter too has had the same problem twice so far. So, for the money and hassle to replace the tip I am not sure if it's worth it for any price. I hope they come up with a good quality connection tip since the rest of the unit may be good quality.
Too large for travel; car connectivity is ridiculous;Jan 09, 2010
By Careful Shopper Yes, this power supply work for my Toshiba laptop (with already supplied nib #8; But this Belkin power supply is TOO LARGE and heavy for 'travel' and even daily travel to/from work. I expected the car accessory to connect from the car outlet directly to my laptop (with the cable suggested in the photo). Oh no... that connects into the bulky rectangular power supply and all that spaghetti connects to my laptop. No kidding. Oh, and the small brochure included: not even ONE connectivity diagram. Again: yet this works, but it's NOT for light and easy travels.
