I purchased the Belkin iPod Tunecast while on the road yesterday and can't wait to take it back to Wal-Mart. It has a very low powered transmitter that allows bleed-through all over the FM spectrum. My FM antenna is on the inside of the car's back window and there should be no problems picking up the signal from this device. We were constantly searching for a new frequency every 10-15 miles or so. This creates as driving hazard. It's certainly not for the solo driver. I broke my own "do not buy Belkin products" promise and will try not to do this again.

When I purchased this transmitter, I was a little skeptical about it because there weren't any reviews for this product which I thought it is so bad that no one wanted to purchase it. To my surprise, that wasn't the case at all. This product works just fine and I use it in my car every single day now. It provides really good non-static music (except when you cross frequency with another car). The only thing about it is my little button that helps to detach it from the ipod came off (probably only due to the banging around I did while taking the transmitter in and out) so now I have to use a clip to take it out.
As a designer myself, I think this product could go a little bit more sleek and small. The screen has two buttons where you can preset the channel that you want to stay on (unlimited channels). There would be a blue light on a small screen that allows you to see what channel you are on so you can set your radio to it.
I have never been a fan of Belkin because I heard a lot of negative experience with this brand before, but as for this transmitter, I will recommend it!

I also bought this from Target, but it works great for me. I live 30 miles out of NYC where there are a lot of FM stations, so finding an empty one was tough. I found a great one listed on the Belkin website. It was a 2nd choice station. Yes there is a hiss until the radio and transmitter sync. then sound is great. Yes, I think a dock would have been great to help with music selection, but others that had that were more then I wanted to spend. I also didn't see the ipod nano 3g listed as being compatible on thoses boxes as it is on this Belkin. Enjoy

Get the Scosche "goose-neck" insteadAug 06, 2009

I have tried and returned more than a few fm transmitters. Before buying this model I was fairly satisfied with the discontinued "Universal" Belkin tunecaster, which fit into the earphone jack of any mp3 player. However, due to not so smart design (constant cord stress above the connector plug) the wire frayed and I had to replace it.
I subsequently bought the 'updated' model (exclusively for ipods) which now plugs into the base, thereby charging the player at the same time. First off, it was quite arduous finding a suitable frequency for this unit, and even when I did, it never held onto it for very long. During the 30%-35% of the time it worked properly, the sound was acceptable... but the rest of the time was interference, hissing, bleed-in from neighboring frequencies and, consequently, looking for free wavelengths and readjusting the transmitter.
What's more, the controller goes all over the place- and even though there's a mounting attachment, the "ideal" spot seems to vary constantly, and so is of limited use. I don't like to give a categorically negative review... maybe this was a bum unit. But it likely wasn't the car, as it was tested in 3 three different vehicles, with fairly good sound systems.
After further research, I took a leap of faith on the Scosche (which I still don't know how to pronounce) "goose-neck" model- as a result of good reviews from a handful of consumers on a "Radio shack/The Source" web-site. I found no other reviews on the web!
It cost half as much as many other models (including the Belkin), but man, how nice is it when a device delivers on what it's supposed to do?
It completely took control over (and held) the very first frequency I tried and, save for between tracks, there was virtually NO background noise or static. The only 'quirk' I found was a boosting of bass which caused some distortion in the speakers. This was immediately remedied by lowering the ipod volume (which was on high), and compensating with the volume in the car.
Very happy with this purchase.
I *may* keep the Belkin as a back-up for when the ipod battery dies in mid trip (it's better than nothing)- but I'm actually relieved not to use a system which constantly charges the battery.

I picked this item up on sale before having a chance to review it. After reading the three reviews on Amazon.com I was pretty sure I would be returning it. I live outside of Chicago which means finding an open frequency is not an easy task. I visited the Belkin site to identify "the best available frequencies in my area." I was a bit worried because even their first choice had weak reception of another station. However, once the Ipod was playing, the clarity and volume was wonderful. NOTE: that the transmitter location did have an effect on the reception, so move it around a bit. In the past when taking long trips, my daughters have taken a clock radio along in the car to listen to music. Now we have stereo sound throughout the car which means they can even use the wireless car headphones if they chose. I have only driven locally the last two days. If I experience problems while traveling further from home, I will update this review.
