4Serves the purposeJul 05, 2010
By John Tauber "Jon"
Purchased this item to create my own cable system, from a satellite tv signal. Easy to program, and love the s-video connection. Only drawback: The unit can create 4 programable channels; however, you have to have a good eye to check the channels you've just programmed in. To recall the channels, you hold the program button for about 5 seconds, and the little light flashes to show what channel is created (with a short break in between the digits-- so for example, channel 42.. The light flashes 4 times.. Stops briefly, then flashes twice more). This is great for the lower numbers, but it becomes a little tougher when you've programed in channel numbers like 79. It becomes like translating the morse code. Would rather see a digital display of the channels. ...But other than that, the unit has -- so far-- worked flawlessly.

4I wish there was a composite video versionApr 18, 2012
By Socrates
Since all of my video sources are composite video, I had to use the included converter plugs. None of them worked. So I ordered some S-video to composite video converter cables. They worked OK, but the modulator's auto terminate feature didn't seem work with them. There was a very slight echo in the video. So I went to my local electronics store and bought some converter plugs, which worked great. The RF output is pretty hot, so you'll want to pick up an in-line attenuator to put between the modulator and your distribution setup. I'm using a 10db attenuator, but I may change that to 15db. When I first hooked it up, the attenuator started to get warm. I thought that strange, so I did some research. As it turns out, many of the Channel Plus SVM family modulators provide power for downstream Channel Plus distribution amplifiers (DA-550 family). That would have been some good info to include in the instructions. So pick up an in-line DC blocker to insert between the modulator and your attenuator. That will keep the DC power from heating up the resisters in your attenuator. With the converter plugs I bought, the in-line RF attenuator I bought, and the in-line DC blocker I bought, all installed, the modulator works great. The picture quality on my televisions is better than I expected. Now if only someone would make an affordable home use ATSC Hi Def modulator that worked with HDMI sources.

5Great DeviceSep 09, 2008

J. A. Brony here,

This device does exactly what it should. Great 4 Channel Stereo modulator. Setting channels is a little tricky but once you get the hang of it, no problem. Provides clean noise free channels of video of your choice on cable channels. Image is clear, crisp as well as the stereo audio, a major requirement for my needs. The only gotcha(my own fault for not RTFM) was that if you use the provided Composite to S-Video adapters on the input you must also use them on the loop thru output. It is also advisable to use a low pass filter to rid your system of cable company slag to ensure clean channels to modulate onto. ie; LPF-600

I purchased both from Parts Express, an Amazon marketplace vendor, and I'm very pleased all around.

J. A. Brony, over and out...
