1Callpod is great - iPod adapters are poorSep 01, 2009
By John Cunningham
My wife and I love the Callpod hubs, as they are a very convenient and flexible way to recharge the many devices that we have around the house, iPods, iPhones, Blackberries, Bluetooth ear pieces, etc. We have one for the office, one for the house, and another for a cabin we rent.

However, the iPod / iPhone adapters are poorly manufactured. While they all work initially, over time, they break -- usually, the black plastic piece around the connector breaks, probably from the repetition of being squeezed on the sides to connect, release from the iPhones. Callpod customer support is generally very helpful, and will swap the parts out when they break, but I've now had to either replace / repurchase over 10 of the iPhone adapters (we use 2 at a time per Callpod). Even the two I have today at home, replacements of replacements, are starting to fail, again.

Normally, I'd discard the adapter entirely if it were this junky, but we really do like the Callpod, and the adapters for the other devices all seem to be very well made.

5Adapter's Make Your Callpod Chargepod BetterApr 19, 2009
By Jacob Hantla "hantla.com"
I find the that Callpod Chargepod adaptor for the iPod and iPhone fits in my iPod a little bit tighter than the charger that came with the iPod...maybe a little too tight. Yet it charges the iPod without any problems. In my opinion Callpod should have included this accessory with the callpod chargepod. I was frustrated that I had to purchase it, but very happy with it's function.

I love the callpod chargepod, which is a round hub with 6 "spokes" of chargers sticking out of it. I have not found a single one my my rechargable electronics for which there is no callpod adapter. I felt that the default adapter's included with the callpod were not the best choice. So before purchasing a callpod make sure you count the cost of all of the spokes that you will purchase; they usually will cost you between seven and ten bucks apiece. But for me that is worth it.

My life is a tangle of cords and the callpod chargepod works to fix that. I keep my six devices (usually two blackberries, an ipod, two bluetooth headsets, and an Amazon Kindle) charging in a self-contained circle without cords going everywhere and without the use of a powerstrip. Then when I travel, I can connect those same device to the car charger using the car power adapter. And in a hotel room, I can charge all my devices (including any that charge via usb using the usb adapter) without bringing tons of cords. The callpod is an expensive, yet for many, worthwhile accessory for your portable electronics.

2didn't lastJan 17, 2010
By Victor Carrola Jr.
after a couple of months this adapter's housing around the ipod end of the plug fell apart. When that happened, one of the pieces got lost so i wasn't able to glue it back together. I later decided to replace the whole callpod adapter with a powered usb hub. everything i needed to charge can be powered by usb anyway and with this setup i have no proprietary plugs or equipment to deal with.

1Great idea, Very Poor Quality Product and Customer ServiceJan 31, 2012
By WMCD
Callpod is a great idea. In theory and in practice it should be a simple product to produce competently. Apparently, it is not. I have had repeated adapter failures. I have two fully-outfitted Callpods one for travel and one for home. My spouse and I share them. Between us we have five gadgets to charge. We have replaced countless adapters because they simply fail for no reason. We finally became frustrated with buying new adapters and contacted Callpod to find out whether they would replace the most-recently failed adapters. What we learned was twofold: (1) Callpod has a lot to learn about customer service, and (2) we need to find another charging source.

Rather than paraphrase or describe the interaction, here is the pertinent text, so you can decide on your own if this is a company you want to do business with. (Note: I had three recently-failed adapters but one was discarded in disgust before we decided to contact Callpod. Despite our Callpod online account that shows all of our purchases, Callpod would only consider replacement of the two we still had in hand. In their second email, below, Callpod references customer fraud, so I can only assume they've concluded that despite evidence they have to the contrary, we are out to swindle them in the amount of $9.95):

"For warranty claims we do require that you send in the malfunctioning adapter and have proof of purchase within 1 year. Since you did already provide proof of purchase in your first email (order numbers) but do only still have 2 adapters, please see a return authorization email below for the replacement of 2 adapter.

I objected to the burdensome return process for two adapters, which each cost less than $10, and asked that a supervisor contact me. Callpod's reply:

"I have spoken with my superiors and they firmly stand by our return policy. It's common practice in the online industry to require the malfunctioning item to be sent back before a new or repaired item is sent out. We require this for 2 reasons: 1) so that we can have our engineers determine the root problem as to why the unit(s) malfunctioned in the first place for future hardware changes updates to constantly improve our products and 2) proof that the adapters are broken (as we have had issues with customer fraud in the past.)

To send 3 adapters back via USPS 1st class mail would cost less than $2, and for that you would get 3 brand new adapters returned to you, return postage paid by us (a $31.85 value.)

It's possible that you got old stock of our iPhone adapters (when we used a manufacturing method of snapping the sides together, instead of laser wielding like we do now, which was implemented due to our warranty policy) so if that is the case then you would be quite happy with the new an improved replacements.

If you'd like to continue the warranty claim, please send the adapters back following the previous instructions.

Regards,

Callpod Support Team"

My second request for a call from a supervisor has gone unanswered. Poor quality product. Ever poorer quality customer service. What a shame.

2Callpod has terrible customer serviceJan 10, 2012
By Elwayeye
I like the callpod in theory. I've been having trouble buying adapters for the items I need to charge, and their customer support is apparently one person by email, who takes at least a week to respond. It's just ridiculous.
