Good product - if not defectiveOct 07, 2008

I purchased two of these single channel video modulators to allow remote operation of my directv dvr's which were located in different rooms. The first one I hooked up modulated the video perfectly but would not remotely power the 8200 video amplifier or pass the IR signal from the amplifier to the IR emitter at the modulator location. After trying several arrangments I substituted the second modulator and everything worked fine.
I returned the first device to amazon and received a prompt replacement. It worked fine. Now I have the entire system working on both DVR's without a hitch. The video quality and IR operation is excellent. In another review I relate the issues I had with the "set top" IR targets which don't work when placed on the tv set top or side.
Overall I would rate the channel plus hardware as cheap and easy to use but of questionable quality. Once you get it working it's great, but getting it to that point is an iffy proposition. I am an electrical engineer by the way so it isn't an issue of technical competence.
