Excess noise overpoweringMar 19, 2006
By J. Stone This CD player made a constant humming noise when plugged in. The noise was loud enough that you could also hear it over the music being played. I would not recommend this product.

You get what you pay forMar 19, 2006

I thought buying a cheap mp3 playing cd player would be pretty safe, since I wasn't looking for anything to listen to my high end stuff. Well 25 bucks sounded too good to be true. First thing I noticed was an unGodly hum that has no rhyme or reason. I never heard the name Coby before and hope to never hear its name or its hum again. (you get what you pay for)

Updated 6 years later - still works -Good CD-MP3 Player for the Price Espec. With Amazon's Free PostageFeb 27, 2006
By Paul Dolinsky Updating this 6 years later(would you believe) on 4-2-12: It's had sporadic use over this time period. It has a 3-way switch on the left hand side of unit: CD Player, Tuner, with Off in the middle. To play in the CD mode, you've got to jiggle the switch, play with a bit, to get it stable, so the CD player come on. I would say that a switch of this time is an accident waiting to happen - better - and probably more expensive for a company to make electronic switches for mode choice (as I have in a radio from Magnavox that is much older than this unit). But this unit still works. Antenna is a too short, still (and no, I didn't expect it grow during the last 6 years, and I do sometimes add a piece of wire to pull in the relatively weak local NPR station up here). This unit is still being made, and that the price has almost doubled to about $52, on Amazon, as of this writing. Now I return you, to my original review, from Feb., 2006), which still remains my view now.
The negatives are that the sound is not great- sounds like an old fashioned transistor radio. The tiny AM-FM sliderule radio does manage to pull in the stronger stations and also has an FM-Stereo control. The pluses are that unit plays CD's and MP3's (that I copied on to CD-RW's) very well, including MP3's within folders. I've read complaints about much more expensive units that have trouble playing the MP3's. The radio is very handsome too, nicer than the picture shows. Controls are well placed and the antenna doesn't get in the way of the handle. Very good buy for the money ($26 and free postage at the present (2-06))

Bad sound quality, unstable CD playerDec 31, 2005
By kitty The sound quality is very crapy. Unclear to hear. No stero effect.
The CD player is very unstable against any movement, because the CD is loosely put inside. Basically it's struggeling to plays CDs when you carry it.

Dead on Arrrival - would not read any cdAug 07, 2006
By Lorraine This player, while it looks like a good deal, may very well be the worst one up there. It arrived dead, and would not read a single cd.
