5This Is The Better AlternativeJul 15, 2008
By Mitchell E. Davis
If you want a phone with big buttons and a large caller ID display, this phone is for you.I originally bought the GE 29369GE1 which looks similar but it had a terrible, painful loud echo whenever I spoke.Unlike the "echo phone",this phone does not have a caller display that lights up,but it is a small price to pay for not getting blasted in the ear.Neither phone has a pedestal as the directions indicate because GE felt it served no added purpose,so don't look for it.In addition to this phone(29569GE1),I also like the GE 29581GE1 which is a smaller version with a somewhat smaller caller ID window.

2No AC adapter and poor speakerphone sound quality.Oct 19, 2008
By Michael J. Hough "Mike"
Although this phone is very eay to use, it requires batteries and doesn't come with an AC adapter (it doesn't even have a port for an AC adapter).

When I use the speakerphone, everyone I am talking to comments on the poor sound quality (intermittent/breaking up). I have tried moving the phone to various locations, but the sound quality makes the speakerphone feature unusable.

I do like the Caller ID display and overall simplicity of the phone controls. It is easy to review, store, and delete phone numbers.

5a good basic desktop phoneAug 26, 2008
By Dasha
I needed a large display, big button, corded desk phone with speaker. I couldn't do any better than with the GE 29569GE1 phone. The sound quality is great whether using the handset or the speaker. The large display can be read even without my reading glasses. It has call-waiting in addition to the caller ID option. It doesn't take up a great amount of space and, in short, I am very satisfied.

5GREAT "REGULAR" corded wall phone with a few bells & whistles!Sep 24, 2011
By W. York "nursetype"
What I wanted: A "regular" corded wall phone for the kitchen, one that did NOT rely on AC power or batteries to function like a phone on a land line should (but batteries for caller ID was fine). I did NOT want an answering machine, as I already have voicemail, I DID want Caller ID and SPEAKER phone options, as well as volume control and larger sized buttons and EASY to operate, & a larger display so I wouldn't need to be on top of it to see who's calling. A phone that didn't feel like it was going to break in a month, one that could stand up to kids and us using it from time to time. THIS is the phone that fit the bill.

I've seen the reviews of this phone, and come on people, if you want an AC powered phone, get another model. I did NOT want one, just a good ol'reliable phone with some of the modern conveniences on it. We have the wireless chargable phones all around the house, and when the electric goes out, which phone works when others with AC power fails? The REGULAR phone.

Built like it will last a while, good looks, big buttons, good speaker phone, good volume control, requires batteries for the caller ID to work, but that is fine, when the power goes out, the phone still works. It also has a few other options on it you can read on the specs, but you get the idea. Speaker quality is better than my last phone that was similar to this one. Hey, it was under $30, and the speaker voice was better than I thought it was going to be, and BETTER than my last $50 wall phone. GREAT all around phone.

NEGATIVES: SHORT phone cord on the handset (we had to go out and buy a LONGER spiral stretch cord for the handset piece), and too long of a phone cord out the back (I used the super short cord from my old phone since it was a wall mount phone and only needed 2 - 3 inches to connect the phone to the wall outlet it was mounted on). NOW.. if I were going to use this beside a bed or on a desk, the original cords would have been fine. But I wanted one that would mount on the kitchen wall & could walk around the kitchen if we had to.

Other than that, READ the description people, this is a good all around regular phone, and for under $30, this is a great deal! Plug it into the wall and it works. Plain and simple, great design, and just the right amount of technology to keep this phone up to date, but not "over done". Great backup phone for when the electric goes out too.

I would recommend.

4good phone for the priceOct 24, 2008
By Ken Kaufman "Lak Boymer"
Phone is easy to use; large buttons are visually helpful, but are so big that they actually slow down dialing. Speaker volume is difficult to set - instructions do not clarify. If volume is turned up, then the sound becomes very distorted. LCD display is good, easily visible. Sound is reasonable on speaker and handset. Easy to store numbers and easy to dial stored numbers.

Quality seems fine for this price range --- made by Thompson, in China, for GE.

Appearance is fair - takes up a lot of desk space.
