Works Great, but not if HDMI output originates from ReceiverJan 31, 2010
By R. Kennedy The Gefen HDMI Splitter was easy to set up and appeared to be a high quality item. My only difficulty, which I feel should have been clearly documented in selling literature, is that you cannot successfully split a signal that comes out from a Home Theater Receiver. Blu-Ray output will only work if you go directly into the splitter from the Blu-Ray player, but then you eliminate other sources from being split.
My setup was to have an HDMI Satellite and HDMI Blu-Ray Signal go into my Denon AVR, and then the HDMI out would go to the splitter and feed (1) the local TV and (2) the upstairs TV. When set up in this manner, you get a lot of flashing screens where the device does not want to syncronize. A visit to the GEFEN forumns confirmed that there are issues when a receiver is involved and the HDMI devices are passed through it. My soltuion was to take the HDMI output from my DirecTV directly to the splitter and then send one out to my local TV and send the other signal upstairs eliminating my ability to share the blu-ray signal without having to buy a separate splitter for this. As this divice was rather pricey, I chose to just buy a second blu-ray player for the other room.
So, be sure that you know your intended configuration before you purchase, as it is a good device if it will do what you intend for it to do. I just came away a little disappointed.
