Description:

The new Double Tool design gives the Honeywell TE242ELW an elegant piano like glossy finish perfect for todays decors. Monitor temperatures in up to three remote locations at once while also receiving the most accurate timekeeping available with the Honeywell TE242 ELW. The system comes with a compact main display unit that along with a single water-resistant remote temperature sensor (model TS15C) with an effective transmission range of up to 200 feet. You can install the remote sensor virtually anywhere in or near the house, including in the living room, on the back patio, or in the rear greenhouse. Should you want to know the temperature in all three locations, simply purchase a couple of additional remote sensors. The TE242 ELW displays the temperature (in either C or F) and time on its blue backlit LCD screen. Users will also delight in the unit's wide outdoor temperature range--which varies from -38 to 158 degrees F when powered by lithium batteries to -4 to 158 degrees F on alkaline batteries--and its programmable ice warning alarm, which lets you know when a frost is predicted so you can take precautions. The built-in clock, meanwhile, receives radio signals from the U.S. Atomic Clock in Fort Collins, Colorado, which adjusts the clock to within one second of official U.S. government time. It even automatically adjusts for Daylight Savings Time. Other clock features include 12- and 24-hour time formats, a dual-crescendo alarm with a snooze option, and a calendar with month and day readings. The display unit, which mounts on the wall or sits on the desktop, requires two AA batteries (not included), as does each remote sensor. The system is also backed by a one-year warranty.

Features:

Displays the temperature at the main display location and up to 3 remote sensor locations

Shows time in 12 or 24 hour format, and automatically updates via radio signal to the US atomic clock

Features dual crescendo alarms with snooze function, and a programmable ice warning alarm

System comes with one remote sensor with an operating range of 200 feet and -38 to 158 degrees F

Main display and remote sensor run on 2 AA batteries each, and are backed by a 1-year warranty

4Decent device, measures temp inside and out, sometimes loses signalOct 22, 2008
By James Yoneda
The weather around here has gotten colder, and out of curiosity I've always wanted to know how cold it was outside at any given moment. It helps especially when I'm getting dressed so I know how much I have to bundle (in the winter).

I got the TE242 as a gift. After looking at the picture on the packaging, the device is deceptively larger than I would imagine. With nothing to compare it to, I imagined it to be very compact and small. It's larger, about the height and thickness of a paperback book. The styling is nice, and the readout is decently-sized and very legible.

The device shows the outside temperature, the inside temperature, the time, and the date. It comes with a smaller remote temperature probe about the size of an altoids tin that you put outside. I hung mine up by the outside door. It receives this signal wirelessly, and also syncs the time up with the US atomic clock for accurate time. I had to set the timezone on mine (press mode until the date abbreviation is next to the time, hold up till the timezone changes).

The only problem I've had is that the unit sometimes loses the signal from the remote temp sensor, which means the outside temperature is blank. Holding up for a few seconds makes the unit search and find the signal again. A minor inconvenience, but annoying. However, it may have been due to interference since I haven't had any signal loss since moving. The remote temp sensor may have a channel selector that would help, I haven't looked at it in a while.

The main Honeywell site is hard to navigate, but finally I found the site for these devices: [...] I was able to find the manual there.

I do wish it had a humidity feature and that it didn't lose signal, but overall I'm pleased with the device. I might shop around next time, but I like this one.

4Nice product for the priceFeb 11, 2010

Unit works as described. I had a previous version of the Honeywell weather station and the remote temp sensors work with this unit as well. The range is good and we use it to monitor the outside temp and the temperature in the kids rooms. If you are looking for a simple to use desk top unit, look no further. I would highly recommend it. Oh, and the battery life is good as well. Going on six months on the first set of AA batteries.

4Nice, for the priceOct 27, 2009
By Long Sam "writing teacher"
This is an easy-to-assemble, easy-to-use weather station. I got it to prove to my husband that is is colder in our bedroom than it is in the rest of the house, and the outdoor thermometer thingy was an added attraction. I put batteries (not included - need two sizes - AA and AAA) in and voila! The little tugger worked! Easy to set, too. Just don't expect to use it in the middle of the night - the night light feature is weak and only lasts a couple of seconds. A great daylight weather station. Also, I didn't - or it didn't - find the atomic clock, but that didn't matter much to me.

4Would recommendAug 07, 2009
By Pamela S. Miller "fishergirl"
I picked this item out of an "award" catalog. I have had it about one month. I took it up to northern Ontario with me on a fishing trip. It worked very well at the cabin. The combo alarm, date and weather was a real convience when you have no electricity.
So far, all is good, no problems. The only drawback I found was that when we woke up in the morning and saw it was 50 degrees outside and 56 degrees in the cabin, we stayed in bed, instead of going out on the lake fishing!

1Hard to useApr 03, 2010
By James D. Miller
It comes with a tiny instruction book that is very hard to read and follow which is a problem since the setup is not very intuitive. The manufacturer put a lot of effort into the outside packaging, but apparently didn't think that the instructions were that important. I guess the manufacturer was far more focused on sales than customer satisfaction.

Also, when I put the outside sensor right next to the main unit the outside sensor says it is 4 degrees cooler than the inside temperature is.
