Does what it advertises, solves problems.Jul 02, 2009

This device solves problems where a USB device needs to be further away from a computer than USB can support. We use this at my workplace to put a Logitech Quickcam Pro 9000 where visitors get their picture taken for badges. It works flawlessly and no software is required to be installed on the computer for the devices to work. The devices are completely invisible to the computer & the device on the far end.

Work, but limitedMar 12, 2010

These extenders work, but they were not sufficient for my application.
I've installed some SMART Boards in my school which use the USB extender to connect the board to a computer. These extenders worked great for just the SMART Board control, but when I also try to pass along audio via the extenders, the speakers crackle (you can connect a pair of SMART speakers to your SMART Board).
I spent about 4 hours trying to diagnose the problem. I had purchased a second pair and swapped them out, but the crackle remained. I then figured it must be an interference issue, but removing any possible interference issue did not help. Then I finally grabbed an extra extender I had purchased a few years ago (what I considered a brand "X" - NTI XTENDEX) and swapped it in, and the crackle disappeared. To test, I installed the new Iogear extenders on a board that was already working fine with the NTI extenders and the speakers crackled immediately.

Nothing to set up, it just works.Mar 08, 2010
By Rock J After reviewing several of these USB extenders I decided to spend a little more on the IOGear. I use it to extend the infrared remote receiver for my Windows Media Center approximately 25 feet. The sender unit has the short little USB cable on it and I plugged that into my PC. A short patch cable connects the sender unit to an RJ45 wall jack. The wall jack is connected to Cat5e cable running through the walls to the TV area. From there, another patch cable connects to the wall jack and has the USB receiver plugged in to it. (The USB receiver does not have a USB cable attached to it -- the photo is kind of confusing.) The infrared receiver is plugged into the USB receiver and that sits up in front of the flat screen TV. It is very inconspicuous and works flawlessly. I've owned this device for about a month.

Works but expensiveSep 09, 2008
By June8 The extension cable does the trick and it securely attaches to both ends. I used it for my security cam, and web cams and was able to receive the same picture up to 70 feet. The only thing is the price. It is over prriced i think. But if it is necessary these extensions are helpful.
Doesn't work with PS3 Eye CameraJan 13, 2012
By G. Tyler This is the second USB extension that I have tried for solving my problem. I am trying to use the PS3 Move with my front projector. The PS3 itself is more than 25 feet away from the screen, so the 6 foot cable on the PS3 camera is way too short.
The first extender that I tried was an "active" extender. If you plugged it into a PC, it would be detected as a hub. With this, the PS3 would detect the PS3 Eye camera, but we would have problems with it locking up and having slow response times.
When I tried this IOGERAR adapter, it didn't even think the PS3 Eye camera was plugged in. I even tried supplying external power at the device end - it has a 5V plug for that. I assume that is for when you have a long cable run or the device requires more power.
It's hard to rate this because it seems to work fine with things like USB thumb drives and we even tried a Rock Band 3 receiver. But for the purpose that I bought it for, it would get zero stars since it doesn't work. I wish Sony had some approved solution for my problem. If anyone has solved it, please let me know!
