 Its okay for the pre-planned itemsFeb 23, 2007

I bought this software hoping it would help me design woodworking projects. It comes preloaded with a bunch of plans like shelves, birdhouses etc. You can make changes to the plans and the program will show you a cut list and drawings. Sounds great doesnt it? Just try designing something from scratch. I have tried a dozen times and get so frustrated I have to shut the program down for awhile. I am guessing that if you are proficient in autocad or something similar you could use this software. There are a few tutorials with it but they are text only. No pictures and no animations. I even emailed the manufacturer and asked and they said the only tutorials available are those that come with the program. I am not particularly thrilled with the preloaded plans either. My money would have been better spent on a book of plans. If you understand terms like point relative, point xy, point polar, and gravity move then this software might work for you. I am so baffled it makes my head hurt.

This software provides a dozen or so basic project templates each of which can be modified for different dimensions. in order to do anything more complex than that, the user will have to use its CAD functions and draw their own project. I have to admit that I haven't had the energy to read the manual or tackle that myself yet. But at less than $5, I should not have expected a full featured, user friendly tool to design woodworking projects.
