4Worked great for LCD TV mounted above fireplaceFeb 24, 2010
By N. Byers
This product actually worked very well for me. I was very happy with it. It installed quick, easy, and with very few issues. I installed this about 10 months ago so I could hang my TV over the fireplace in my living room. I can see the other reviewer's point about the grey housing box not having dog ears to be more retro fit friendly, but if you are installing this behind a TV that is going to be mounted on the wall there should be a stud near since that's what you'll attach your TV wall mount too. I filled the keystone inserts with a coax insert, HDMI insert, yellow rca for composite video, and red/blue/green rca inserts for component video. I also ran into the same situation with the hole tabs in the grey box for the wires to fit through, but that was easily solved with a cordless drill and a 1" paddle bit. Took 20 seconds to drill the hole in the box and then I had plenty of room for the wires. Not every Lowes carries this product and even if it's a few bucks cheaper you still pay tax on it where this has free shipping and most states no tax so it's kind of a wash, and a life saver for those people who their stores don't carry it.

Overall, besides a few minor inconveniences (that were easliy and quickly solved) I would recommend this product to anyone. Just plan ahead, make sure you have a stud, and if the provided holes aren't big enough for your wires, just drill a bigger one. I don't think this product deserves a 1 or 2 star rating.

4Perfect for behind a big screen TVJun 12, 2010
By Darik Horn
I put the Leviton 690 behind my TV, and it is perfect to get that no-cables look. The keystone ports are spaced further apart than they look in the stock photo, and you can use HDMI keystones in all six.

This is a high voltage part, and the gang box should be stud mounted in the "new work" style. The screw ports make this easy. However, this part does not have any hooks or flanges for an "old work" style install.

You'll probably need to drill open the gang box to use all six ports on the faceplate.

3Nice, but could be better.Dec 31, 2010

I stumbled across this item while doing some research for installing an outlet behind our wall-mounted tv. Overall, it's not a bad unit, but it could be improved. As noted by another reviewer, this box is more of a "new-work" box, but it doesn't have nails, it has screws, so it's not hard to use as an "old-work" box. The only limitation is that you have a stud in the vicinity of where you want to install it. Another limiting factor that I found was that you cannot removed the outlet from the faceplate, and if you use the screws to attach your wires (which I did because I was using 12/2 wire) you cannot access the hot-side screws once you install the keystones on the opposite side. The only other thing that I didn't like about the design was the molded in spikes where the wire comes into the box. There's not much room to squeeze your wires back into and this feature restricts your wire from sliding back out of the box a little. I know, that's what they're designed to do, but when you're trying to working with A/V connections on the opposite side it helps if you can have some extra wire to pull the unit out from the wall a little. Now, as for the A/V side, the box in the back has the same openings as the electrical side. Not bad if you're just doing some speaker wires, but if you're doing RCA plugs, or worse, HDMI cables, you'll have to enlarge the holes for the cable ends to pass through. I ended up cutting the entire back off of the box on that side so I had unrestricted access like any other low-voltage application. Oh yeah, even though I love Amazon, this item is readily available at any Home Depot for about the same price.

4Decent solution for flatscreenAug 05, 2011
By Jeff Bower
This is a decent recessed power/keystone panel for low-clearance areas. As mentioned in other reviews, the included electrical box is new work however I just used a deep old work box and it fit fine sans the removable plastic divider between the power section and the keystone section.

The downside is that it's not quite recessed enough. I have a slimline flatpanel mount and in particular the HDMI cable I purchased has a bit tighter a bend radius than I'd like. A deeper face would be nice, but an angle may be better if a little more difficult to pull off. Someone with a tilt TV mount or just one with a larger profile than mine shouldn't have any issue.

The only other minor nit is I much prefer Phillips screws but they're just finish screws.

3tight spaceOct 19, 2011

After a difficult time installing, I would prefer to have had a separate faceplate. The single piece outlet + faceplate is difficult to fit in the box with wires and provides little flexibility.
