HOT Prongs When Barely Plugged In!Nov 02, 2011

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R248H0CF9IVTMO One problem with these outlets is that once the shutter is bypassed the plug is powered with about half an inch of prongs remaining outside and coincides with the point of maximum resistance from the shutter. It possible that little hands that can't push a plug all the way in can get caught on a exposed powered plug sustaining severe burns! Basically its relatively easy to push a plug in half way and get power; hard to push all the way.

Efficient Leviton TR outlets: 30 for 30Mar 04, 2011

I thought I'd write this review in response to the one star review complaining about intermittent connectivity, among other things. We recently purchased a new home which contained numerous old receptacles dating back to the '60s which were cracked in many cases, and in others poorly held plugs. Because we wanted a home which would be safer for children (in addition to addressing the safety issues of the older receptacles) we decided to go with tamper resistant receptacles. I purchased them in bulk packs from Home Depot.
It *is* harder to insert plugs into these receptacles than standard receptacles, and initially, there is some frustrating resistance. After some use the more immediate problems go away and they become easy enough to use. They do a great job of holding on to whatever they've got plugged in (at least for the half year or so we've been using them). I have *never* had a problem with an intermittent transfer of electricity, and that includes being a little gung-ho with the vacuum as I move about the house occasionally tugging on the cord. We're quite happy with this product and I've never had a defective piece.
Sidenote: Amazon's price on this is extremely high. For about twice that you can buy a whole mess of them at your local department store.

Lousy Leviton TR outlets: 0 for 2Feb 17, 2011
By E. Heitzman I got two of these tamper resistant outlets at a local store along with some standard Leviton ones. I fooled with one in the store to be sure that a plug was easy enough to insert.... shoulda tried both... I installed one then found that it was very difficult to plug anything into the upper outlet (no problems with the lower one). So I pulled it out and installed the other one (after rechecking that I could easily insert plugs into that). After turning the circuit breaker back on I tried it out and found intermittent contact in both outlets (wiggle plug and it's on-off-...). The same plug-in device works fine in all other normal outlets. It's a good thing I bought enough spare standard outlets. These were cheap, but I'm returning them to the store on principle. I buy a lot from Amazon, but I'm sure even Amazon is glad I didn't get these from them...I'd lose money returning them and they'd lose money on shipping me replacements...
