Decent unit for BROADCAST HDTV (not cable)Dec 28, 2008
By The Image Doctor If you are smart enough to read these reviews before buying (you'll see the rest of us were not...lol) then here is the low-down...
Pros: Relatively easy to install, good space utilization, good functionality (probably too much for this application), decent picture quality and sound
Cons: Will not process cable tv signal, strange signal delay when using the remote, magnetic remote isn't strong enough to stay on the fridge
THIS UNIT WILL ONLY PROCESS BROADCAST HDTV SIGNALS. It will NOT process a cable tv signal so don't even bother trying.
Summary: I bought the unit and started to install it. But the included "spacers" and mounting bolts were not sufficient to clear the underside lip of my kitchen cabinets. So after cobbling together some 1x2 rails, I finally had everything in place.
If you have average depth cabinets, there's not much space between the back of the unit and the wall. You'll want a $5 right-angle (90-deg) coax adapter to make hooking up the coax cable easier.
Once installed, and power on, we put in a DVD - all was well - and played the radio - all was well. Then came installing the cable. I ran a new cable from the middle of my attic to the kitchen - drilling several holes in walls to get there. It took about 2 hours. When I hooked up the cable, I got the dreaded "No Signal" message. Hmmm - okay, probably my DIY cable ends. I replaced both coax ends, and switched the cables around on the splitter. "No Signal." I completely removed the unit and hooked it directly up to the cable from my main TV which I knew worked. "No Signal." So I guess the unit is bad - which is really bad becuase we already threw away all the packing and can't find the reciept!
So I get online. Low and behold, EVERYONE who bought this unit has the same problem: This stupid thing doesn't process a cable TV signal.
Well I can't take it back so i'm determined to get something out of it. I run down to RS and buy a small, amplified HDTV antenna. I install it high in the attic and hook everything back up. The TV works fine. So now I have one TV with broadcast HDTV, which is probably a good thing in case our cable goes out and we need to know what's going on.
Apart from all that, my only complaint (so far) is the 1-2 second delay between pushing a button on the remote and anything happening on the unit. Irritating yes, but not a deal killer in itself.
So if you don't have cable (or don't mind not using cable if you do have it) and want HDTV in your kitchen, this unit my suit your needs.

Not CATV CompatibleJul 04, 2008
By Janell M. Hugins Do not be fooled by it's great price point and features. I purchased this, got it all mounted and hooked up, only to find that it would not receive CATV signal. Memorex's fix - hook it up through your cable box. Kind of defeats the purpose of and undercabinet TV.
BUYER BEWARE.

Small TV that canFeb 04, 2009
By D. Staggs My wife bought us one of these for Christmas. First we tried DVD's and were pleased, radio works and finally I tried an OTA antenna, but inside the house and it picked up about a dozen channels. I was not satisfied with this (no fault of the TV) so I put the antenna in the attic and now I get ALL local channels and in digital HD so there is no static. Very happy with my set-up now. Have not tried with CATV. Bottom line is the unit is fine for OTA broadcast if you have a really good signal. BTW, I used a $10 antenna. Trick is to get the antenna up as high as possible.

By Consumer 101 Bought this at a great price and soon found out why! It won't store our cable channels!! Nothing we did (for 2 whole hours) could get it to work! I think we need to get a cable box (no thank you) ... It's a worthless piece of junk!!!!!

Dysfunctional - Poorly Engineered - Not in the 21st CenturyAug 06, 2009
By Duane K Dysfunctional - Poorly Engineered - Not in the 21st Century
This product was purchased on sale as a gift and left unopened until the actual birthday 4 months later. Never in a bazillion years would we have imagined that a television set manufactured in this century would be incapable of processing cable TV signals!! Unfortunately, by the time the gift was opened and connected to the household cable, the 90 day return policy from the store had expired. We now owned a dysfunctional, under-the-cabinet television by Memorex.
After contacting the store's customer service center and being denied a return, we were told to call Memorex...which is actually Imation Electronics. After trying to understand the language they spoke and dinking around for a couple telephone calls, I finally was able to talk to someone that understood English. The rep came right out and told me that this "television" could not operate off the cable system...I would need to hook it up to a cable box. I asked if the mounting brackets for the cable box were included...he was stumped at first but then responded with a "no". I asked if they recommended I use Velcro straps to mount it to the underside of the under-cabinet TV. No response. I mean, how flippin' fabulous would this look?!! It was at this opportune moment when I announced that it would be a little ridiculous to mount the TV under the counter so I could save countertop space...but then occupy this saved space with a stupid cable box! He said I had the option of using a digital broadcast antenna to receive my local channels. Wow...what a fix!! I asked him to check the year on his calendar to make sure it said 2009, not 1958. With the product box in hand...I explained to the poor customer service rep, that there was no indication...WHAT SO EVER...on the box that stated it required either a cable converter or a broadcast antenna system in order to operate. I went on to say it simply stated it was a DVD/TV - Radio...giving any consumer the idea it was a 21st century television set. Complete FALSE and MISLEADING advertising.
After thinking about it for a week, Imation agreed to issue me an RMA and refund my money. After another week, I received the RMA instructions and shipping label in the mail...they were going to send it via Email, but obviously that didn't work for them either. To top it off...they didn't include a pre-paid USPS or UPS shipping tag...so I am suppose to pay for return shipping. Not only do they falsely advertise their product, but Imation/Memorex also prides themselves on cheap customer service practices. I can only hope that they don't loose the TV during this whole return process...and I receive my refund by Christmas...2010.
I won't be purchasing as much as a blank CD or DVD with the name Memorex or Imation on it for a long period of time.
