4Better than expectedMar 18, 2012
By Skoro "Slow Reader"
I use this compact antenna when I connect the Midland 75-822 mini-CB in my pickup truck. My other vehicle has a MUCH longer Wilson antenna, so I have a basis for comparison. First thing, this shorty antenna REALLY needs to be tuned with an SWR meter before you use it. Being so short, it can get way too much power loss if it's untuned and that will severely limit its range. I was able to get it to a reading of about 1.5:1 on channels 1 and 40, which is better than I thought it could do. Anything under 2:1 is usable, but the lower, the better. Before adjusting, this antenna was reading 3:1, which is high enough that it can damage your radio if used for any length of time. Tuning is easy if you have a meter; just loosen the hex nut with the included small wrench and raise or lower the top section of the antenna a little bit (doesn't take much) and then retighten the nut. Once done, this antenna is good for several miles of transmit range.

4Midland 18-2442Mar 14, 2011
By Bob
I bought the Midlad antenna model 18-2442 to go with the Midland CB radio. I had to search it out, because there was a statement that customers were purchasing a cobra antenna for the radio. It came, and I hooked it up and I was pleased at the performance. I was hearing things form the freeway which is about 5 miles from where I live. And it was cheaper to which makes it nice.

After purchasing it, I recommened the antenna to a couple of guys who rv with us. There is a backlog on the antennas. Hope they fill it it soon.

5Well made and very effectiveApr 08, 2011

Got this for a cross country caravan trip to Yellowstone. It's very well made and gives excellent performance. Car to car range varied from 1/2 mile in heavy traffic over rolling terrain, to more than 2 miles on the wide open prairie. In 7000 miles of driving, in sun, rain, and high wind, the magnet never once came loose. Easy to tune with an SWR meter by loosening a set screw (wrench included) and adjusting the height of the top piece. I highly recommend this tuning for best performance.

When you get home the antenna knocks down to a convenient size for easy storage. It even comes with it's own vinyl storage pouch.

4Seems to workJan 01, 2011
By R. Spencer
This is the only antenna I've tried so I don't have much reference but it seems to work. I also don't have a meter so I can't calibrate it. I can say that it receives as well as expected and can be heard a short distance.

I gave an extra star for construction quality because it hits the overhead beam on the parking garage every time I park and it hasn't broken, yet. Pretty impressive for it's price.

5Surpising little antennaDec 10, 2011
By D. Hellmann
This is my first antenna. I got it not too long ago and I love it. It's a simple but sturdy construction. The magnet is plenty strong. I've had it up to 60 without any problems. Don't expect a huge range. My friend and I were talking from about a mile and a half away (i measured this on google maps)without a problem in a city environment. Which is pretty good for this size and price of antenna. I would suggest this to anyone who is just getting into cb's just like me.
