If you hook up more than one speaker pair to your amplifier, however, the impedance (ohms) may drop to a dangerously low level, stressing your amp beyond its limits, causing circuitry damage or shutdown. You may avoid this potential nightmare by connecting your speakers to a multiple speaker selector. However, ordinary speaker selectors can also degrade system performance. Although they use a resistor "in series" to protect your amp from low impedance loads, these ordinary inductive resistors can cause noticeable high frequency loss, so you hear less detailed music reproduction. The power rating is often low, potentially damaging your speaker selector if you're using a high current amplifier. | | | Features: | |
• High current amplifier protection circuitry allows you to use up to 6 speaker pairs without damaging your amplifier.
• Accepts any gauge speaker cable terminated with Monster Angled Gold Pin connectors.
• High quality extruded aluminum chassis for heat dissipation.
• High current resistors with aluminum finned heat sinks for maximum power delivery, up to 150 watts per channel.
• 24k Gold contact spring-loaded connectors for maximum signal transfer and easy cable hookup.

speaker selector does the jobAug 24, 2006
By Kerry Doyle I'm highly pleased with the utility of the monster speaker selector. Connections are easy, logical, and the sound does not appear degraded at all. Make sure you always have the protection button engaged. Without it, my amp shut down.
The SS6 is a good way to run speakers to other rooms and outdoors

Nice speaker selector!Jul 26, 2008
By D. McCann This six pair speaker selector switch replaced a piece of junk I had unfortunately purchased from Radio Shack. The old switch had bleed-through to non-selected speakers, which sort of defeats the purpose.
The monster switch works as it should - sound only from selected speakers. It also looks nice, with an attractive black coated aluminum housing, and the switches seem to be of good quality. The connectors in the back are a little bit awkward if you don't plan to use the "gold plated pins" that monster would like to sell you, which I don't. Copper is a good enough conductor, thank you.

Does Exactly What is PromisedJun 04, 2009
By Mick M

I have limited budget for audio and I wanted to run speakers to a porch, two sets to a patio and another set in my kitchen. I connected this device to the "B" speakers on my Yamaha reciever. I thought I'd give this thing a try, but I was pretty skeptical because I have a variety of speakers and they are at various distances from my reciever. The farthest pair is over 120 feet away and I put a volume control on the end. I was pretty sure that would not work, but it works very well. The sound is really good even though the signal travels through this thing and 120 feet of wire and a volume control. The next thing I was afraid of is that all the sound would disapear or the quality would drop dramatically when I turned on all the speakers, but when I turned them all on there was no noticable loss of power to any speaker.

Monster Speaker Splitter - Great productFeb 24, 2011
By David W Meyer The problem with my amp shutting down from my old speaker splitter due to impedance loss has been completely resolved with the Monster SS-6 multiple speaker selector. I am running up to 5 pair of speakers from my one amp. Of course, if the protection button on the SS-6 is turned off then the amp shuts down again. Leave the protection button turned on. This is a great product and the sound quality remains very good as well.

Good valueOct 07, 2009
By KernelHappy For non-critical, multi-room, single zone audio, these get the job done and are priced right.
I installed two of these in a home where the previous owner took the amp and switches when they sold. The existing volume controls were non-impedance matching and I didn't perform any measurements, but two of these switches with 11 pairs of speakers enabled presented a manageable load to the 150wpc 2 channel amp allowing hours of continuous use without forcing the amp into thermal shut down.
I should also point out to others that these are impedance matching, not volume matching, they average out the electrical load placed on the amplifier. This is important because if you have different speakers with different sensitivities (dbl/wm), you will end up with different apparent audio levels in different rooms (I should have thought to explain that to this customer before hand).
