CA is ceiling mount, not wall mountSep 04, 2008
By Chad Myers First up, note that Amazon has the descriptions reversed. This item, OmniMount 30.0 CA-IFK/B, is the ceiling mount version. OmniMount 30.0 WB-IFK/B is the wall mount version. Thankfully I read the instructions before I started drilling holes and verified with OmniMount's support which part was correct for ceiling mounting.
The good: These are very sturdy mounts. If installed properly they are not going anywhere. OmniMount support was generally responsive to my questions.
The bad: The installation instructions could be better. There are parts that are inaccurate that, if followed, can cause the installation to fail.
- The instructions refer to joist locating probes included in the kit. Neither of my kits included those. The response I got from Support led me to believe that no such thing has been included in the kit for some time, if ever. Instead, use either a small nail and/or a stud finder. - The instructions say to drill holes in the back of your speakers and then insert Togglers that you will then screw in to. There are no Togglers for the speaker in the kit. Support confirmed that there are no Togglers for the speaker just the ones for the ceiling. - The instructions for drilling holes in the back of the speakers for the mounting plate created holes that were too large, probably due to the lack of Togglers to insert. Where the instructions say to use a 3/16" bit and then a 5/16" bit, do NOT use the 5/16" bit. If you do the holes will be too big for the screws. Just stop at the 3/16" bit and the screws for the mounting plate will fit properly. Thankfully I found #14 1.5" plastic plugs at one of the home hardware depot stores. Cutting a couple of those in half gave 3/4" plastic inserts that could be popped into the holes and then screwed into, kind of like the Togglers the instructions incorrectly referred to. Support never did get back to me on that snafu.
Neither good or bad: There seem to be very few companies that have mounting kits in this weight class. OmniMount doesn't show these on their main web site either, instead they consider 20 pounds and higher part of their pro line. Go to [...] for information on the pro line to see what other options they have available.
Overall: I've had them up for a few days now. Besides the initial installation issues no problems. The positioning seems solid; they haven't drifted at all from my initial positioning. Pretty good considering the Definitive Technologies BPX's they are supporting are around 25 pounds each. I don't regret getting them but I am rather annoyed at the incorrect installation instructions.
If anyone asked if I would recommend them, yes, I would recommend them but with the qualification that the person purchasing / installing needs to read the installation instructions very, very carefully to make sure that they are absolutely correct.
Update: April 22, 2012 So, how are these holding up almost 4 years later? Perfectly. The speaker positioning hasn't drifted a bit and I haven't had to retighten the bolts. Updating my rating to four stars.

The KIT is for ONE speaker mount, not a PAIR, beware!Feb 09, 2010

I ordered this item needing one for each speaker, left and right, and received ONE speaker mount. This is a $90 mount when you look at a pair of them. I think they should have clearly stated "EACH" in my opinion. They seem very sturdy, however, so would consider using them if the price point were lower.
High quality, poor directionsDec 28, 2009
By Jeremy L. Peake Like the other review states, the directions included do not match reality. You are best off to read the directions to get a general idea of what is required for a secure installation, but beware of the pilot holes (don't use the larger sized drill bit for the speaker bracket)
I used these to mount a pair of Paradigm Mini Monitors which are about 17 pounds each. The mount is rock solid. I decided against the 20# mount because of reviews that say you are pushing your luck as you approach the max load. Glad I went with the 30's.
Would have given 4 stars except included directions are bad. They are actually very detailed and give lots of great info. Just some of the details are wrong. No big deal, as the install is very simple. Just glad I saw the other review before I started drilling!
