How to spot a fake battery...Mar 29, 2005
By Dr. Leslie Brown
"Doc Brown"
The story is I bought a "genuine" panasonic battery off of an ebay seller for US$20, and I discovered that it is in fact a fake. It was bought NEW, still in the box, it has a panasonic logo, but it is definitely not the Li-ion polymer battery I expected....
It was bought from the "newzmobile" store on ebay (he sells hundreds of such video camera batteries as well as sony ones) - but he did refund my money with some help from ebay, squaretrade & the paypal buyer protection programme. But obviously I could not recommend buying these from any ebay seller, as you just don't know whether it's real or not.
How to tell the difference between a fake/counterfeit "panasonic" bettery and a REAL panasonic battery: For a start, the fake battery has a black label, where as the OEM panasonic battery has a grey label. The other main difference is the fake battery weighs too much. The original 680mAh battery weighs 36grams, so you'd expect that a truly genuine 1360mAh panasonic battery would weigh just shy of double that. I think they actually are supposed to weigh about 66grams. THE FAKE ONE I GOT WEIGHED IN AT 96 GRAMS!
There are many other minor differences, which are best pointed out in a photo - I have hosted an image of the difference between the fake & real batteries here:

The fake battery is probably just some half-baked nickel-cadmium piece of junk. Because NiCd cells don't have the capacity of a lithium batteries, I'm willing to bet that it won't last as long as a genuine panasonic battery... It might also cause damage to your camera. I've certainly learned my lesson.
1) If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
2)You get what you pay for.
I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU EITHER BUY THESE FROM A REPUTABLE SELLER SUCH AS AMAZON OR GO AND BUY ONE IN THE FLESH SO YOU CAN CHECK IT OUT IN PERSON!!
Hopefully this was of some help to you... please vote below...
Thanks!

Does not fit the PV-GS150Aug 11, 2006
By Jonathon Haradon This battery is model number CGA-du-14a.
I called Panasonic and asked if this battery would fit the GS-150 and they said it would not. The batteries they said would fit were the CGA-du21a (6.5 hour life, advertised) and the CGA-du-12a (3 hour 10 min life advertised)
Be careful what you buy. Amazon does a terrible job of matching pictures and titles of products to the actual product.

The price is much higher (about 3x) than comparable knock-offs. I charged mine as instructed, put it in the camera, and i've been using it everyday for the last week without having to charge it once. The battery is down to about half power now. It fits perfectly in my camera and the stock battery charger I already had. It is a bit bulkier than the 1.5 hour battery, but it's not too big that it gets in the way. I don't mind paying extra for peace in mind. I'll update this post in a year.
Pros: long life, warranteed, no memory lag after charging
Cons: big, comes only in black, more expensive
