Best Purchase This YearAug 17, 2009
By R. Tofiga I was kind of skeptical in ordering this rice cooker because I have had a National Brand Rice Cooker for over 20+ years and it finally gave out. When I researched that Panasonic had bought out National, I thought that I would give it a try and I'm glad that I did. It cooks the rice perfectly and I like that it keeps the rice warm for up to 12 hours. It is very easy to use and cleaning is a breeze. This is the best purchase that I have made all year. I would highly recommend.

Definitely NOT FOR BROWN RICE!!!Nov 01, 2010
By Diana Robinson The capacity of this rice cooker is wonderful. It cooked and kept warm my white rice good enough, certainly not perfectly but I think if I were to keep this machine and fine-tune the water to rice ratio I would probably have more success in making sure the white rice was not too dry or mushy. However, I will definitely not be keeping it because it is horrible to cook brown rice in. The brown rice is actually cooked okay (even though there are no cooking instructions specifically for brown rice), but the huge mess involved in the cooking process is so not worth it. It's clear to me now this machine is intended to cook white rice only. When cooking brown rice it sputters terribly from its 'smart' vent making a huge mess and leaked all over the counter (and onto the floor) as the 'dew catcher' cannot keep up with what's produced when cooking brown rice. After reading the reviews I had high hopes, but will sadly be returning this rice cooker asap.

Replace National brand cooking of similar capabilitySep 07, 2010
By Jeffrey Z. Wolf I had a national brand rice cooker that sustained a life threatening fall. So I had to replace it (I believe a rice cooker is truly the best invention since sliced bread). Also the rice cookers with separate glass tops, do nothing for me. So I searched Amazon and found this model. I ordered it. Shipping was fast enough for me. This model works as well as the National brand model that I had, so I am quite happy with it.
So if yo are looking for a simple rice cooker (turn on and forget it) this is the one you want.

Really Bad DesignNov 15, 2011
By He_Art I'm a hardcore Panasonic consumer. I usually go for this brand first, and this is NOT the rice cooker to get!
I got another Panasonic model in my other place, and it is simply not just like this piece of #$%^. Furthermore, National is definitely the best!
So how did I end up with one? Well, I needed something affordable, and simple for rice cooking. I went with a Panasonic thinking that it is the best bet. WRONG!!!
This rice cooker like some people had reviewed it in the 5 cup model, SR-TEG10, spews hot water from the top of the machine. The consequence is to clean the table every time after use. This is just not convenient.
It cooks the rice OK, but for such inconvenience, I would definitely AVOID this Panasonic, until they have a better and newer design.
I now need to look for another rice cooker. This one still works, and I just don't even know where to put this extra worthless product in my house. For now it will be an extra backup rice cooker, and it might end up going to the trash can in the next year or so, even though it is in working condition. How would you rate that???
very good quality rice cookerDec 08, 2011

Pleased with the speed of the machine and its ability to steam veggies, only small draw back is the clean up of the steam release valve. Its a little harder than other machines but not reason enough to not buy this one. Very good machine.
