You pay for what you getOct 08, 2010
By Doug Lindsey I should of read the other reviews first. My gripe is it says "400" watts. The Rating is now where near that. I am a audio hobbiest with an Mba in Electrical Engineering and I installed this correctly (Instructions are not needed if you know how to hook a speaker up pos to pos neg to neg from amp) I played a Garth Brooks CD and had and average of 52 watts RMS of undistorted power with 71 peak watts going to each of the 2 voice coils. There was serious cone "flexing" (not to be confused with the in and out motion of the cone) and the speaker ended up producing smoke and smelling severly after about 15 mins. I was using a Carvin pcm150 which has only 50 watts of pure clean power per channel anyone who has used Carvin knows there is no distortion. The Pyle speaker completely failed after only 23 mins of 52 watts RMS. Furthermore, It is my Professional opinion that this will cause a fire in someone's home if played at the "400" watt rating. As a rule of thumb with Pyle stuff you allways divide the ratings in half in this case divide the rating by 4.

ReturnedApr 29, 2011
By L. Peaslee Buy something else.
The grill doesn't fit properly. In fact they even supply double sided tape to hold the grill in place. I thought i would buy this and if the speaker was junk i would use the frame, and grill and replace the speaker with a better one. However the frame is weak, pieces fall off and it's just poorly designed.
I ended up buying an Kicker 12" 8ohm subwoofer, and a mesh grill, which I will mount in the wall.

No specs, or instructionsFeb 26, 2010
By C. Bordman
"mooovies"
The subwoofer arrived in a nice box, but there are no installation instructions or spec sheets. And I can't find anymore information on the web, than what amazon lists. Amazon says the subwoofer is 8ohms, but it is also a dual voice coil. Does this mean if I hook up in series the load is 8 ohms, or do i need to hook up in parallel to get 8 ohms ?
two years runningMar 30, 2012
By Thomas Gross LOOK FOLKS,
After a couple years my house is still standing and the speaker still functioning. I thought the deal was great when i bought it and now especially. Over the last two YEARS i've enjoyed the sound produced and i have to add, installation can be achieved by an idiot, trust me, i fit into this category when it comes to electronics. The speaker is designed for bass so there will be some speaker flexing, like i said two years with no tears or falts, breakdowns of any sort.

Keep LookingMay 27, 2010
By L. Lazo This in-wall sub woofer looks like a good value but understand you'll be completely on your own for installation and wiring. No instructions at all, except for a wall cutting template. Enclosure size and damping are very important to the sound of a speaker. This 12" sub woofer requires significant enclosure volume that may not be possible with an in-wall installation. This is a passive sub woofer so if you have a sub woofer line out from your receiver rather than paired wire terminals you can't use it. If you don't have any sub out connections you'll need some sort of crossover if you want to wire the right/left channels directly to the sub woofer. Also with a dual voice coil parallel or series wiring matters if you have a single channel output. Don't look to the instructions (since there are none) and don't look to Pyle (no response to emails) for assistance. I've achieved some level of success in getting acceptable sound, but i'll upgrade for sure in the near future. If you want high quality sound and easy install, keep looking.
