I've been using this volume control for a few weeks. It is a good value. However, you can tell that the design was not optimized. The circuit board will not fit in a "old work" electrical box. I ended up using a low voltage (open) box to accommodate the large size and relatively large gauge wire I used.
The function of the control itself seems to work just fine and both the rectangle look and "single hole" plates are provided which is nice.
Overall, you get what you pay for (imagine that...)

I chose this unit as it is impedence matching, stereo and at a decent price. My only complaints about the product are that the unit is large and must be used in one of the 'low voltage' metal boxes that don't really stay in the wall well with a lot of use. The screw placement for the finishing cover required me to also drill out additional holes in the low voltage box to secure it in place wihtout bowing out the covers. Not a big deal, but just inconvenient. Once installed, the unit works well. Doesn't really have an off volume level, just a really, really turned down setting; not a big deal for me as I can shut off the zone from my receiver but something I was hoping for. The sound goes through clean and works well with nice adjustment through the many individual volume settings. Although it works well, I will probably be looking for a higher end unit when I go to do my whole house install down the road.

i saved 4 bucks buying this on line, hey every penny counts, its better for new construction but will work in old work ap no prob on a new install since its open do what you want at that time, basic box like i said saved money, and if you look at lowes they are the same size, its not uncommon to need a larger box.

we'd bought an inceiling speaker kit with a damaged control so purchased this as a replacement which wired directley to the speakers and is also lighted where as the last was not...inexpensive and very much worth the ca$$. extremely simple swap.
