4height will be a one-time adjustmentFeb 19, 2010
By Michael
I like this product, but the height adjustment system is not well thought-out. The monitor must be taken off the arm whenever making a height adjustment. So, essentially, height will be a one-time adjustment for all of the trouble involved. This product is attractive and well-made, of heavy gauge steel. The finish is attractive, and the arm and swivel mount on the monitor work well together. The desktop anchor clamp is terrific.

UPDATE: There was a tendency for the arm to shift when fully extended, so I replaced the two bolts that held the arm with longer bolts and locking washers. Now, my desk mount is very solid. I used 1-inch length size M6 metric bolts with corresponding locking washers (see the picture I added to the product page).

5A Desk Mount with excellent quality and strength for large monitors.Jan 05, 2012
By D. Harris
I needed a good desk mount for a 27.5 inch (28 inch) LCD computer monitor and did a lot of research before settling on this Sanus MD115-G1. It's difficult to find a good stand for a monitor this large without paying much more.

To my delight, the MD115-G1 did not disappoint---its design and build quality are first rate. Even the packaging is excellent.

Here are the highlights:

1 - Solid aluminum construction with an attractive dark gray finish.

2 - The base attaches to the desk using a clever clamp that places the screw knob on top of the desk (behind the stand) instead of under it like most other clamps. Its design also allows you to mount the stand even if you do not have access to the back of your desk because the clamp is tightened from the top of the desk (behind the stand's upright). As long as your desk is at least 1.25 to 1.5 inches away from the wall, you can probably install this stand. Plus, it appears as if the desk mount can accommodate a wide range of desk top thicknesses from thin to thick. My desk top is relatively thin (only 7/8 inch) and it handled this thickness just fine with lots of adjustment for a much thicker desk top. Also, the clamp design does not appear to scratch the desk (the adjustment screw does not contact the desk directly) so your desk should still look good if you remove the stand later.

3 - The stand handles monitors up to 30 inches in size and 35 lbs in weight.

4 - The height of the stand allows the monitor to be placed high enough above the surface of the desk to easily tuck a center channel speaker underneath the monitor. By my measurement, the maximum height is about 17.25 inches from the desk top to the center of the VESA mounting bracket. In my case, I set the height of the stand to about 15.75 inches and this placed the bottom of my 28" monitor about 6.25 inches above my desk top.

5 - Two VESA-compatible mounting plates are included to fit most monitors with VESA mounting holes (200x200, 200x100, 100x100 and 75x75 mm). The smaller of the two brackets is pre-installed on the stand (it accommodates 100x100 and 75x75mm).

6 - A cable management system is included (but I didn't use it).

7 - The stand allows the monitor to be positioned very close to the stand, thereby reducing its distance from the back of your desk (if you desire). And yet it also has plenty of reach so you can pull the monitor forward toward you. The total travel from front to back is almost 7 inches (6.75 inches).

8 - The monitor can be rotated a full 360 degrees and allows portrait orientation. However, only +/- 15 degrees of tilt is provided (this is adequate for my use). The monitor can also be swung from side to side 180 degrees.

The stand is also very attractive. And it looks like it will last a long time.

The only thing that some users may not like is the fact that the height of the monitor is not easy to adjust after the monitor is mounted. This is because the height is adjusted from the back of the stand via two heavy allen bolts (an assortment of allen wrenches are provided for installation and various adjustments). If the back of your desk is against a wall, then the wall will prevent access to the height adjustment after the stand has been fastened to your desk. Therefore you'll need to measure your desired height and set it before you mount the stand to your desk and you won't be able to change it afterward without moving your desk out from the wall.

The back of my desk is not against a wall so I can walk around it and have full access to the back of the stand. (This is another reason why I appreciate that this stand is attractive.) In my case, I could adjust the height after the stand is attached and the monitor mounted. However, you'll need a friend to hold the monitor while you make the adjustment to lift its weight so you can easily slide the height of the stand's arm up and down its track.

In my application, I do not expect to need to adjust the height so this was not an important consideration for me. Rather, I prefer the added strength that this kind of stand design offers. It is one reason why it can handle a 35 lb monitor. Therefore, I look at this design as a positive quality rather than a negative one.

To mount the stand, you'll need to provide a philips screw driver (to screw the VESA mount screws into the back of your monitor). The rest of the stand's installation and adjustment is handled with the allen wrenches provided. It is also recommended that you have a small level. I had one and it was a great help at adjusting the rotation of my monitor so it was perfectly level. This was important because my floor has a slight slope to it.

Finally, I purchased my Sanus MD115-G1 directly from Amazon for $78.99 and Amazon shipped it for free. I believe this was an excellent value and I give this product my highest recommendation. I plan to purchase more of them in the future for some of my other monitors.

4Saved me a ton of time and moneyJan 10, 2012

Had just bought a 42" HDTV weighing about 32 pounds (without its plastic stand).

Needed to position the TV flat against the open front of a hollow cabinet, with the left and right edges of the TV just overlapping the outside edges of the cabinet. (Am I the only one who wants to mount a TV this way ??)

The front of any ordinary TV stand would have stuck way out, and the TV would be teetering on the front edge of the bottom shelf. So an ordinary stand would not have worked at all...

So I searched and surfed for something that would hold my TV up, mounted from behind and bolted securely. I even looked at wall mount brackets, but I didn't want to add a front "wall" or doors to my cabinet just for the purpose of installing an expensive wall mounting bracket there. I must have looked at web pages for 100 different mounts, plus a few at Walmart.

I noticed this Sanus arm weight capacity is 35 pounds, so my 32 pound TV would be safe. But the Sanus description says it only goes up to 30 inch screens. Plus, its mounting clamp is designed only to grip the exposed edge of a desk or edge of a cable cutout. But my cabinet doesn't have any exposed edges, and I didn't want to saw a big cable cutout into my cabinet either.

After exhausting all other ideas, I figured if this arm wasn't tall enough, I would just make a wooden or aluminum pedestal to put beneath it, to give it a boost. And I'd find some way to bolt it down. So I bought it.

Well, it turns out this Sanus arm (at its full height position) is tall enough to put the bottom edge of my 42" TV frame SIX inches above the base mounting surface ! Just about right for my need.

Instead of using the clamp it came with, I drilled a 3/8" hole and used my own 3/8" diameter, 4" long bolt + big nut + washers to fasten it down to the mounting surface of my cabinet.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is, it didn't come complete with the bolt or some other option for thru-mounting.

The tilt and swivel action is great. Holds pretty solid after hand adjusting the TV position.

And the best part is, at any time, without unfastening anything, I can simply pull the TV toward me about 12", and swivel it too, to access the cables behind it ! Didn't need to move the cabinet to install the TV either ! This arm is almost cooler than the TV itself.

Again, note that my TV is 42" but does NOT exceed this arm's weight limit. Also, if you mount your TV like this, be 100% sure BEFORE you begin that your cabinet is bottom-heavy in the back, so that the cabinet won't tend to tip over (towards you!) when the arm is extended with the TV mounted on it. You might even want to put bricks on the back of the lowest shelf...just make sure you don't unbalance your cabinet...keep yourself safe and don't destroy your TV.
