One of the better titles we've exploredAug 26, 2008
By Misti A. Delaney We have been bringing home software learning toys for our son since BabyWow. I think we've probably tried them all by now.
Our first reaction to this one wasn't positive. We started referring to it as "The annoying pencil" because the "host character" is an animated pencil programmed to sound like an overeager nag.
However, my son played with it occasionally, and we gradually began to realize that this was one of the better organized computer learning toys we'd brought home. Rather than the very simple-minded, one game one subject model that most of these learning toys use the games are graduated so that they get gradually more complex and the concepts build logically on one another. He actually seems to be learning from this game, where so many of the kids learning tools seem to subscribe to the education as "trained pony tricks" models.
Someone else mentioned that they found the British accent off-putting, but our son didn't seem to have a problem with it. The actor speaks clearly and doesn't use any inscrutable slang that we've noticed.
We've decided that this is the one we'll try for second grade.

Get this product while the getting's good! My boy's teacher used this software in her classroom and then we got it for home.
not what I expectedNov 04, 2007

Even though the disc were really cheap, I expected it to be more engaging like any online kids learning site. It was hard to navigate around the cd for specific lessons.

I bought this software for free, paying for the shipping. Let's say, you get what you pay for! This software is one of the worst I've seen in a long time, especially in lieu of that it is targeted for kids.
I installed then played around with it. What it looks like is a jumbled room that you click around "exploring".There is no index or list of games. The games on there seem very pointless, and do not really teach math or reading, as I was hoping for, let alone anything relating to first grade preparation. The character that pops up is an annoying, extremely British crayon, that the average person can't understand. All of the speech on here is British, which isn't good for American kids that may have never heard that accent and not be able to understand it.
It may be listed on here for cheap, but don't bother wasting your money, otherwise, you'll end up wasting your time as well, with the installing and uninstalling. I guarantee your child will not even desire to play this one.
Stick with Mickey Mouse Kindergarten or series that are similiar (at least you see that they are learning patterns and letters and words, etc. on that one, all while watching Disney characters act silly.).
