3Good Enough at Low VolumeJun 21, 2008
By A. General "afgeneral"
I purchased this mainly because I wanted a comfortable neckband headphone -- in this regard it's okay. Sonically, it's slightly better than the stock earphones that come with ipods, zunes, etc... but it doesn't really compare to a similarly priced/sized Sennheiser PX100 or even the much cheaper Koss KSC75.

The bass is there, details are good enough to enjoy at midrange, and the soundstage is decent enough for me. Now for the bad: transparency is significantly worse compared to the PX100, timbre sucks, and worst yet... the sound starts to saturate at mid-volume. To put it in perspective, on a volume scale of 1 to 10, the Sony starts to lose sonic details at around 6 while the Sennheiser PX100 will retain its sonic quality up to 10!

I guess this headphone is good enough for casual use at low volume listening.

Other headphones I own: Sennheiser HD650, HD595, HD497, PX100, Koss KSC75, UE Super.fi5 Pro, Panasonic RP-HC500, etc...

5Portable quality sound at lastApr 18, 2008
By J. Anderson "J"
Folds into a size small enough for any pocket with my Cowon D2. Clarity is good, nice range and bass is deep for the size. Doesn't make you feel like you're missing anything like most portable headphones. Much better sounding than my MDR-g52g and they stay on well enough to go running with. Padding is much improved over most open-air Sony headphones. For the price I hope they are durable and the cord is thin but covered by some fabric weave.
Perfect for people who wish they could fit quality sound into their pockets without 6ft. cord and massive cans to draw attention. I have Sennheiser 202's that sound slighty better, but are a hassle to bring along.

5Magic HeadphonesDec 12, 2010
By Steveru
These are easily some of the coolest headphones I've ever purchased. I originally bought them because I was looking for a relatively cheap pair of running headphones, and these seemed to be the best bang for your buck. Despite the fact that they're great for running, they're simply amazing headphones that cannot only fold up for easy storage, but feature a very convenient retractable cord. The one nitpick I have though, is the cord is on the left ear, so if you like to keep your mp3 in your right pocket, the wire is going to have to cross over in front of you. Not a deal breaker by any means, but worth mentioning in case anyone out there is obsessively cord compulsive.

If you're not an audiophile and are looking for a great pair of everyday headphones, these are definitely worth a shot.

Did I mention that they have a retractable cord?

3Decent Design, Mediocre AudioDec 24, 2008
By Erik Lanigan
I really like how these headphones fold up and how they fit on my ears. I bought them mostly for the retractable cord, which did not disappoint. I like how they let in virtually all ambient sound, so I can hear what's going on around me. I do NOT like that the cord is so short (3 ft, I think.) It has forced me to switch my iPhone-carrying pocket to my left side, since the cord comes down off the left ear, which really bothers me. So this feature is bad for anyone who is not left-handed.

The audio quality is throughly mediocre if not bad for this price range. I hate to think what the $20 version of this headphone sounds like. All the reviewers on this page who rave about its bass and treble must have never heard anything better than the iPod stock earbuds. I think these reviewers would feel born again if they ever heard a $70 pair of Grado SR60's.

Bottom line: these headphones are overpriced for what you get.

3Apparently, not good for exercise, but good otherwiseFeb 09, 2010
By E. Milner
I got a pair of these at the Apple Store in 2008 as a replacement for my dying earbuds. At first, I loved them, LOVED them. I love the retractable line, and they are very compact and durable... for everyday use. I liked them so much I ordered a pair from Amazon for my girlfriend, and she loved hers too.

Then I joined a gym.

Within a couple of months of semi-regular workouts, both of the sets of headphones had died. I first thought my own pair was dying through use and abuse, then we tried using my girlfriend's instead... they died the same way. It started with the sound coming and going in one ear, then both died completely. Apparently, these headphones can't handle the sweat. It seemed silly to me at first until I started searching Amazon for over-ear headphones that are good for exercise and I began to find numerous other people experiencing the same problems (with various models and brands, not just Sony). So, unfortunately, this heavily colors my view of these headphones. Let's face it, they aren't exactly cheap, even with the Amazon price-savings ($50 retail, $35 on Amazon), and I'd expect or hope more durability. Or a warning... something!

At this point, I'm relying on earbud phones until I can find a good set of headphones that can stand up to exercise. For regular, street use, I think these are great headphones and may even buy another pair at some point, but I would strongly suggest you not exercise with these.

Addendum: This review is largely about my exercise experience, other people comment on sound. I'll add the sound is good, but I thought the greater value was in the compactness and durability in the fold-up structure. The sound itself was not really better than a $20 pair of fold-up Phillips headphones I bought at a drugstore, but, they look better and are more compact, so, worth the extra money to me, up until I sweated them to death.
