Nice idea but screams "CHEAP-O"Sep 23, 2009
By Eugene Bogorad It's a very clever design.
However every aspect of it cries "CHEAP-O". The plastic feels cheap. The screw mount holding the central strut cracked and fell off ON THE FIRST USE. It isn't a vital element of the whole thing - but still. The monopod part is brittle, forget about using it even with a reasonably big lens. The orientation is way off - both in horizontal and vertical positions it's off by some 3-4 degrees counter-clockwise. The level bubble is tiny and nearly inaccessible when the camera is mounted.
Only buy this if you're on a tight budget and going to operate it GENTLY.

looks good but bad quality controlAug 23, 2010
By Tony, Avid hobbyist I bought this tripod for the first time from frye's electronics. I thought it was a great deal because of the monopod and tripod duo. When I got home, the tilt control handle was already stripped. the threading was completely gone right out of the origional manufacturers packaging. I exchanged it the next day for a new one. Luckily this one worked well and didnt have the same problem. I did notice that the monopod legs stuck a little but i remedied that with a little lubricant. the tripod and monopod served their purposes well enough. I usually shoot wild life and aircraft with a d5000, battery grip and a nikon 55-200 or tamron 18-250 lense. Granted I was pushing the max load on the tripod but it seemed to hold up fairly well. Until yesterday when the nut that secures the legs down failed and the plastic housing broke off when i moved the tripod over to do a family posrtait. luckily i was holding the tripod or over $1,000 would have hit the cement. im returning this product to frye's today for a better model.
All in all, I would recomend this tripod to users who arent going to use it too often. it will serve well for light use with a point and shoot or smaller camera but i would not use it for any slr. EVER
For not too much more, you can get a Dolica AX620B100 62 inch. it doesnt come with a monopod but a coworker has one and it looks solid.
if you are serious about photography look the other way
Great Dual Purpose TripodMar 02, 2012
By OSUrob I was skeptical about purchasing something like this from a company I was not familiar with. The Sunpak 620 exceeded my expectations. I had a great tripod but had lost the piece that fits on the camera. If you lose this piece, the rest of the tripod is finished. The Sunpak included two of these connectors in case you have two cameras. I needed it as a backup in case I lost one.
Having the ability to switch between a tripod and a monopod is great. Very sturdy in either configuration. The leg extender locks on the tripod are a little light duty so treat it with care otherwise it could get loose and not clamp correctly. Otherwise a very cost effective dual purpose stand.

By Francois Arouet At this price I did not expect much so I was surprised it was such a good quality. Very happy.
