 DONT GO CHEAP WHEN YOU LOOK FOR A TRIPOD!May 30, 2011

IF YOU HAVE SPENT A GOOD SUM OF MONEY ON A TOP OF THE LINE SLR DIGITAL CAMERA THAT ALSO LOOKS COOL ) THE LAST THING YOU WANT PEOPLE TO SEE IS YOU CARRYING A CHEAP, PLASTIC, KIDDY-CAM TRIPOD ALONG SIDE THAT EXPENSIVE SLR )))

THE SUNPAK 723p CARBON FIBRE TRIPOD which I bought from Electronics Expo arrived with the outer carton/packaging in tact, but the thumb lever was found broken. It was packed 'broken' and I found the three pieces of plastic in the carton. (This tripod is 'MADE IN CHINA').The remainng part still attached to the tripod head had a crack running thru it. I called Electronics Expo and was told to send the WHOLE ITEM back, including the legs etc. I suggested if i could send only the broken part so it would be a smaller package to handle/pay for etc. and if they could send me the new part back. It was flatly refused which I found very unreasonable. They said they will have to return the whole product back TO THE MANUFACTURERS for a replacement. Why could they not send ONLY the broken piece? If they have a relationship with the manufacturer, it should be possible. Or they could have attached a leg part to my head part to send to the manufacturer, and sent me the new part from their stock.
When I thought about it, I realised that i would anyway get another flimsy plastic thumb lever and that too would give way in a few days!
So why should I spend money on 'replacement postage' and any other charges?
I had talked to a lady at Electronics Expo helpline and such is my experience.
I will make a new thumb lever of metal and use the tripod.
I HAVE PUT MY GRIEVANCE HERE SO THAT YOU, MY FRIENDS ON THE NET,(WHOSE FEED BACK HELPS ME A LOT) SHOULD REALISE THAT THIS SUNPAK IS A SHODDY PIECE AND ELECTRONICS EXPO SHOULD GIVE MORE PRACTICAL AND LOGICAL SERVICE.
I will not order another SUNPAK item and never from ELECTRONICS EXPO again.
