Vialta BM-TV Single Beamer Phone Video Station ReviewAug 26, 2004
By D. L. Sheffield This is a fantastic product that allows my husband and I to stay connected with the children and grandchildren who are located throughout the United States! It took a little bit of effort to get set-up the first time, but the Vialta Customer Service was very helpful. It has been very easy to use subsequently. The video quality can be a bit jumpy when the little ones are moving around excessively (e.g., demonstrating their karate moves), but is made up by the ability to see our family live. The grandchildren (located 2500 miles away) were able to celebrate their grandfather's birthday party and watch him open up thier present. We love it!

Great product great priceOct 25, 2003
I loved this product! Although this is my first video phone purchase, for the price you can't beat it! The image is much like that of what you may find on a computer. It's very easy to set up and use. Great way to keep in touch with older family members.

Blurry at best.Aug 08, 2005

If you don't mind a blurry picture and really blurry when any one moves then this is for you! However, if you can get the people in the picture to sit perfectly still in is fine, but then that is just like looking at a picture. There is a delay and the ability to see anyones mouth move is random at best. We have it hooked to a good phone line and my son, who has the other one, also has his hook up to a good phone line. I can't imagine what you'd see if your phone line was iffy.

DOESN'T WORK!!!!Jun 12, 2008
By Jen We bought two of the beamer tv video phones, one for ourselves and one for our family out of country. When I set it up it came on for about one minute, and then just went to a black screen saying no input. I reconnected everything repeatedly and went over the manual. Then I tried the other beamer tv for our family and it didn't work at all. Just a black screen. I've tried to contact Vialta and they havn't gotten back to me. The customer service phone number in the owners manual is disconnected and the website to register your product is unavailable. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

Videophone on the cheap--and it works as advertised!Mar 09, 2007

If you're looking for an inexpensive way to get a videophone, the Vialta Beamer T.V. unit is the best way to go. The inexpensive unit works with a standard telephone line and a television set with video inputs. Make sure you don't use the unit with home intercom lines, for some odd reason my unit didn't connect with a distant unit.
Video images are very primitive here but they do indeed work. But be prepared for slow frames-per-second (fps) speeds. After you see yourself on the TV monitor (to center yourself, etc.), turn your "inset" image off because your actions are out of synch with your speaking--that is, the slow fps speed can be disconcerting, with a slight delay, say, when you move your arm around.
Even though this is not the ideal AT&T Picturephone we loved in the 1968 science fiction movie "2001: A Space Odyssey" it's never-the-less still exciting to see your family and friends while talking with them. The best feature is that you don't need a personal computer or broadband connection to communicate (thank you, Vialta!). The video signal travels on the same phone line as your voice. Just a lot slower than P.C. videoconferencing. And finally you can have a genuine videophone without bothering with user-unfriendly systems requiring an Internet connection.
Thus, older people who didn't grow up with the labyrinth-like operating procedures of today's Gordian Knot electronic gizmos will find the Beamer a lot simpler to operate. Beamer is simple in concept, simple in design, simple to set up and operate--this is how high tech should be! This product is a REAL invention that improves your life (not complicates it). Why wasn't it on at least one of Time Magazine's annual list of great inventions since 2004? From what I researched, Beamer has one a prestigious product award. The company needs to really get out there and show the world this thing!
So, if you want to start using a videophone today, get yourself a Beamer station! Hey, how can I invest in Vialta?! I love what they're doing.
