Good Without Digging in the WallsDec 19, 2010
By Average Geek I have an Insteon home, but there were a few places where I didn't want to dig into the switch boxes. In those sites, I needed a product that could go on the wall like a normal switch. There is no equivalent product in the Insteon world.
So I got a few of these very inexpensive switches and a costly EZX10RF unit to translate their signals to Insteon codes for the powerline. These switches work as advertised and I've had no issues with range.
They are a little finnicky about how long you hold the button while programming them. Also, they don't seem to have non-volatile memory, so if the battery runs out or is removed you'll have to re-set the house code and number. But it's not a long or difficult procedure. The battery is a CR2026 watch battery, the same as taken by many car fobs these days. Available at any Radioshack.
The switches are a little on the white side for my aesthetic sensibilities but don't look overly cheap and don't stick out too far. The adhesive pads they come with are fine.

Works, but X10 can have distance limitsOct 25, 2008

It's very useful when it works. And it does work pretty well. It's just a fact that X10 will not work at great distances, and sometimes your house wiring may involve some distance you didn't know. I've used my two to switch on on and off for bed for over 5 years. Try it. Cheap and fun. Chicks did it.

Horrible rangeFeb 23, 2012
By Ryan The range on this thing was about 3 feet, I tried about 6 feet away with line of sight and it did not work. I tried about 3 feet away through a wall and it did not work. I threw them away.
