5Improved designDec 02, 2008

I needed one of these to replace one that went bad after several years. I bought two and they work great. The house code adjustment is easier to to adjust quickly in case you use more than one code for different parts of your house. Be sure to get the LEVITON WHOLEHOUSE Multi-Phase Blocking Coupler (also here) to put on your house Neutral wire to block signals going out to other homes or comming in from them. It also bridges the X-10 signal between legs of your electrical service. I have used X-10 for over fifteen years. Plug-in lamp and appliance modules have a life expectancy of about three to five years. I never had a built in switch go bad. I also use Activehome Pro programmable controller. It is never dark during waking hours unless we override it.

5Works Great - Priced RightAug 25, 2011
By K. Gibbons "pcnetwrx"
After our old Radio Shack controller of 20 plus years died, we found this and got it in a couple of days. It worked just fine with our old modules so we're happy. Our original controller had lots of buttons and this one only has 4 sets which can control 8 modules by using the toggle switch between 1-4 and 5-8. And of course you can use different lettered zones to control even more modules, but that's not as convenient although relatively simple to do. We're glad we found this at such a reasonable price.

UPDATE: Still working great four months later, but I see the price has gone from around $10 in August of 2011 to nearly $30 in December of 2011. I'm not sure it is worth that much.

5Best Automation Kit Controller --- love it!Aug 23, 2011

What more can I say, than its the best thing you can get to control all X10 supplies with just one control unit, reliable and direct via any power socket outlet! The price was the best, just plug it in and you are ready to go. Easy to set up and install for beginners just right out of the box!

4It works the way I wantAug 14, 2011

I got this controller to replace a control console that quit working (the original was over 25 years old, no complaints on longevity!) I like how this console combines selecting a module and the on/off function together so one button push turns an item on or off. In the past, I had to select a module, then push on or off. This is for a bedside lamp, so it's saves some fumbling in the dark for multiple buttons. I don't think this will complicate dimming, but that is something I rarely do.

The only problem I've had is learning to use a light touch on the buttons - at least for the module-1 position. The bottom of the controller is smaller than the top, so pushing the module-1 buttons can make the controller flip over. You don't need to press very hard, but since the buttons have no "click" and all X-10 systems have a slight delay from button-push to module response, I tend to push harder until something happens. Not a terrible fault, it just takes getting used to.

I'll probably get another one to replace a "two-button-press" console in another part of the house.
